Hello guys and girls!

First off, let me apologise for the delay in new letters. Been very busy with some stuff unrelated to this project, and also busy working out a lot of things about Yamabushi, making sure that we can keep all that we love in it, and give more space for everyone’s creativity.

I got a lot of questions from you all about what is going to be on the go with the project, as well as some notes with ideas, which were all very much appreciated. So gathering all that together, I wrote up this newsletter hoping to make things a little bit more clear on what is going to happen, and what we are working on.

First off, I would like to inform everyone that the team now compared out of two people, myself as a coordinator and writer, and WhisperElmWood, who is going to be doing the character designs, and the actual Comic. We decided to go on a limb here and put a lot of effort into this, so we hope that we will have your support, as I know we will. You have all been great up to now, giving us much desired motivation to work on this.

Back to basic news. Each major project needs an initial budget, to see how big we can make this. Together, WhisperElmWood and I decided to create posters, bookmarks, information books and art books about the setting we will be creating. Your characters and well as ours will be starting in these. We are also considering the idea of commissions through here, to help us finance the project better, but that will all be settled in due time. The highlight here is that we are not out to make profit, remember that, but also keep in mind that publishing something, copyrighting it so one can steel it, and posting you items all over the world does in fact cost a lot of money, and that has to come out of somewhere. So that’s that!

Now, with regard to the characters that were previously accepted into the setting, as I writer I saw that limiting everyone to become a Yamabushi was not really promoting much creativity. Some characters, such as Sleepwalking-Dreamer’s wonderful Kaida Yugiri, would fit other places, and give the story much more flavour. This will not only help you create virtually whatever kind of character you like, but also allow us to not keep things fresh and interesting.

The characters there were already submitted will be listed down, depending on what you gave me already, into different factions and ideas.

In case I lost you there, here is a little run down of what is what in our new world.

The land our characters will be living in will be called Seiryu. This “continent”, in mainly split up 2 main areas, the Inner Lands, ruled by various leaders and a monarch, the Emperor, and the Outer Lands, which is a rather shade area and does not always abide by the Emperor’s law.

In the Inner Lands, we find 5 main regions, The Land of the Dragon, which is at the core of the continent, The Brotherhood of the Lion, The Tiger Nation, The Children of Fujin and last but not least, the Mountains of the Ox King.

The Outer Lands on the other hand, do not have defined regions. Various Clans and Tribes roam around there, but very little of them in recorded due to their shady nature.

Your characters will be deriving from one of the regions and lands mentioned above, each of which has different properties. I’ll explain them here in short:-

Inner Lands, The Land of the Dragon: - The High Society. This is where the Emperor is born, raised, and lives to rule over all of Seiryu. In the Land of the Dragon, we also find the Capital, which is the gem of the entire continent. People living here are mostly nobles, but everyone is welcome.

Inner Lands, The Brotherhood of the Lion: - These are the most loyal servants of the Emperor. Most of their grounds are training camps in which Seiryu’s army is cultivated. They are not only very military inclined, and also very proud of it.

Inner Lands, The Tiger Nation: - This is a more laid back region, where people of different status live together in a nice community. In this province, we also find a new race, a breed of humanoid tigers, whose name is not yet defined unfortunately. More details will come up about them later on.

Inner Lands, The Children of Fujin:- As strange as this might sound, this land is filled with a race of ape men. Unlike the Tiger Nation, which welcomes everyone in their lands, The Children of Fujin only respect others of their kind. Even though their leader does consult, and work under Seiryu’s Emperor, they like to think of themselves are very independent beings. More details will come up about them later on.

Inner Lands, Mountains of the Ox King:- These lands are mostly filled with very strong farmers, who harvest enough food, fruit, and various kinds of vegetation, to supply to other regions in the Inner Lands.

That gives you an idea of what is what. There are a lot of organisations and such will appear in the story, but those will be left secret for now!

To all those who were wondering where the Yamabushi fit in, here’s an explanation.

A Yamabushi, in the real world, was said to be a warrior able to master both the arts of fighting, and the arts of sorcery. In Seiryu, a Yamabushi is a licensed warrior, whom is acknowledged by the Emperor, and not only is not required to join the army ranks for numerous years, like most are, but is granted permission to travel around all of Seiryu, helping both common folk and nobles, with any type of aid they might need.

Very much like the ninjas in Naruto, Yamabushi accept missions of any type, expecting as a reward either food, clothing, or any other type of compensation. Some Yamabushi do their job to become wealthy, and establish their families as a Noble House, others do it just to better themselves, but whichever reason, the main thing is that out of the thousands that apply to take the Yamabushi exam each 10 years, only a handful make it.

The honour to become a Yamabushi is a very prestigious one, and it is estimated that only 10 out of the 10,000 that apply to the exam actually make it to the end trail. Most of your characters, or rather, the ones that were accepted up to now, will be seen as taking part of these trails. Some will fail, others won’t, it all depends on how interesting I feel that they are to everyone else. So good luck with that everyone!

Getting back to the Regions, each character will be a part of one of the regions mentioned above. Below I will give you a small list with what kind of warriors fit which region. Then you will have an idea of where you character would come from.

Dragon: The Dragon, users of the water sorcery, are the best in the arts of illusion and mind games. The favoured weapons are the swords (Katana, Wakizashi, Dai Katana and others) yet mostly prefer to fight in close quarters using their fists.

Lion: Samuraish character, filled with pride, wearing lots of armour and mastering a variety of weapons, mostly swords and polearms. They are very loyal to the Emperor, and have only 1 goal, to make Seiyru a safer place. Blessed by the Sun Goddess, the some warriors of the Lion Region are also fire sorcerers.

Tiger: The Tiger clan is everything which other clans are not and more. They welcome mostly any type of martial arts, yet, they promote only a few specific types in their schooling systems. They mostly base their training on lightning, water and wind sorcery, they provide tuition on the basics to the arts of illusions, and besides a amazing repertoire of martial arts, they are very proud of their dual wielding skills, fighting with two swords at once, a signature technique used only by the people from this region.

Fujin: The monkey people are vastly trained on wind and earth sorcery, as well as extremely experienced in hand to hand martial arts, and the use of pole arms and staffs. They neglect the use of any other type of short range weapon such as swords, daggers or anything of the kind.

Ox King: These farmers are mostly brawlers. They base their skill on strength. They might not be very agile, but they don’t pull any punches. They also make use of Earth Sorcery, as well as beast taming, using a different range of animals in combat.

Spoiler Clan, The Crow: The Crow, which are a clan deriving from the Outer Lands, use virtually any kind of weapon possible, and wear very tight and sleek armour which allows them to move around very swiftly. They also have great proficiency in the arts of illusion, as well as great knowledge in herbalism and poisons.

Of course, this is all still very vague, but you can imagine who comes from where at this point.

I do not know what to add at this point, since I have been writing this down for a while, but please, if you have any quests, do ask, and I’ll add more information here.

Considering how Naruverse is not actually a club, but rather a big project, we do not need members to send us a note saying "join" and the usual works, even though we greatly accept those note and more then often, reply back.
